"I am the worst sinner, but I am forgiven because of what Jesus did for me"
By Emily Woodhouse, 07 Oct 2016
At school, we had chapel twice a day and I considered myself religious; I loved the hymns and knew the Eucharist by heart. As expected, I publicly declared my faith in God at confirmation.
But one evening – after a trip to hear an evangelist called Billy Graham – my life changed forever.
I was moved by one particular verse from some literature I picked up: “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me!" (Revelation 3:20).
I knew I had to make a decision: I could either let Jesus be the driving force of my life, or carry on being in charge myself – something which left me facing eternal death.
That night I lay in my bed and gave my life to Christ.
I wasn’t 100% sure what I’d signed up to, but I knew that things were to change. I started reading the Bible with friends and began to understand what God’s grace meant.
I carry on the Christian journey today, forever falling short of the Lord’s standards but knowing that there is nothing I can do to make God love me less.
I am the worst sinner, but I’m forgiven because of what Jesus did for me by dying on the cross in my place over 2000 years ago! It’s not always easy being a Christian, but it certainly makes sense of life and gives me a certain hope and future.
